Bustle dress

made from heavy silk brocade

Period: around 1873

This dress was designed after an original cut from the early bustle period for an exhibition at castle Letzlingen.

It was crafted from heavy silk brocade interwoven with gold threads and delicate silk organza.

The skirt itself consists of an over- and an underskirt made of silk brocade; the former is hitched up by straps on the inside. Underneath is a cotton underskirt followed by a bustle.

The bodice is narrow-cut and boned on the inside.  Sleeves and décolletage are adorned with antique tulle lace.
A corset is indispensable for the tight lacing required for the necessary slender waist.
