Rococo - Dance dress

Ansicht vorn

Period: first half of the 18th century

There are only little literature and few paintings – let alone originals – about dance dresses from this epoch. The following suit is therefore based on the few existing paintings, drawings and porcelain figures. In this particular case it was our customer herself that tirelessly provided new sources and corresponded with museums to ensure the most authentic dress possible.

We crafted this Rococo dance dress with a three-tier skirt from silver- and copper-colored silk. The skirt is underlaid with copper-colored silk (which is only visible during dancing). The silk flowers are color-coordinated under different degrees of brightness to match the copper-tone of the silk fabric precisely.

Both the front and the back part of the strengthened top taper off beak-shaped towards the waist. Linen is again used for padding. The narrow, three-tiered pagoda sleeves are garnished with antique tulle lace. A small pannier made of cotton and a corset, which is covered with copper-colored silk on the outside and with cream-colored silk on the inside, serve as undergarment. All eyelets are handmade.
