Edwardian Kimono bridal dress

Period: 20th century / 1913

This bridal dress from the end of the Belle Époque was crafted from antique white silk. Its design relies on very elegant and sophisticated kimono style, which is typical for this period. Distinctive of this style are the puffy top with its cut and pleated collar, the tight-fitting and lateral gathered skirt with vertically pleated front, the broad sash belt of cream-colored silk, as well as the sharp-ended sleeves.

The embroidered cotton tulle used for the bride's veil is an original fabric from the year 1910, which has been edged with delicate cotton lace. The dress comes also with a bridal wreath, here made of silk blossoms, which was exchanged with a real myrtle wreath for the wedding ceremony.

As model served a photograph of the English bridal couple Smidt from the year 1914 as well as contemporary fashion illustrations from the year 1913.
